Property Release

Evidence Items: Released only upon authorization from prosecuting attorney or department supervisor. Cannot be released until 30 days after sentencing on state cases and up to 18 months on federal cases.

Safekeep Items: May be released to owner during public hours. Items held for 90 days, then disposed of according to State law.

Found Property: Released to owner with proof of ownership. Held 90 days then destroyed according to the State law if not claimed.

Firearms Release

A BCI background check must be performed on the owner/third party of every firearm released. Background checks can take 24 hours to several weeks. Please call Willard City Evidence Technician or Supervisor before collecting firearms. Proof of ownership is required. Not all firearms can be released - several variables apply.

Third Party Releases

The Willard City Police Department can release approved items to a third party with: A notarized power of attorney or a notarized letter from the owner.


Sex Offender Registry

Please call the office to schedule an appointment if you need to register and or update your Sex Offender Registry.
